I recently shared with you guys here on the blog that we recently bought our very first house. There are many things I love about our new old home. One of my favorite things about our home was that it had a home library. I knew it would be the first room we’d be giving a makeover to. So today I’m going to share my home library makeover design inspiration and our design board for it.
About Our Home Library
I started to dream about all the projects we’d be doing when we first put in an offer. The very first room in our house that I got excited about was the library.
I’ve always loved the idea of having an at home library. So I knew pretty clearly the feel and look I was going for in this room.
Even so, creating a cohesive design for a room is something I generally struggle with.
I’ve heard the best way to visualize a new space design makeover a design or mood board is incredibly helpful.
What I See When I Think of A Home Library
To me, a library should be dark and moody. Obviously, a library needs to be light enough to be able to do what it’s intended for, and that is read.
With that said, whenever I read (which is not nearly as often as I should), I like to be in a cozy moody corner with low lighting, plenty of blankets, and a candle burning nearby.
I think of Central Perk coffee house in the show Friends.
I picture the bookstores in Denver. Located in 100 year old buildings with beautifully carved stone and floor to ceiling bookshelves.
Big leather chairs you sink into. Velvet upholstery. Lattes, and a fire crackling in the background as snow falls continuously outside my window.
Basically all my favorite things wrapped into one perfect room.
With all that in mind one room perfectly stood out as my inspiration for our very own home library.
Ultimate Home Library Makeover Design Inspiration
I’m talking of course about the library that was recently renovated at Chip and Joanna Gaines’ Silos.
I’ve mentioned this room before in previous posts. From the moment I saw photos of their new library office I fell in love.
And it’s stayed that way ever since.
If I could I’d make my whole house feel like this very room.
However, that might be a bit overkill so our library will have to do.
I’ll be using this room as my overall inspiration. That very much includes the dark green walls, the brass accents, natural wood, and pop of red or pink color.
Green is my favorite color but a dark green like this can be too much if overused. So while it may not be appropriate for a whole house it’s absolutely perfect for a library.
I love how well the pop of pinks and reds were integrated.
I myself would have never envisioned those colors working so well together until I saw it done here.
They have an Anthropologie sofa and mirror.
I may not be able to fit a whole sofa into our library. However, I can try to implement those colors in other ways and hopefully have the same effect.
I’ve pulled together some photos of other rooms and/or elements that I might want to incorporate in our library as well.
I see people do design boards like this when doing a room makeover in their own house. Hopefully putting one together for this room will help me visualize it all come together to see what works and what doesn’t.
If it helps I’ll probably do the same for the rest of the rooms in the house.
Fingers crossed!

Hiya, I am really glad I have found this information. Today bloggers publish only about gossip and internet stuff and this is actually frustrating.
