I’ve been wanting to do a “This Week on the Farm” series for a while now and I finally decided to just do it. I’ll be catching you guys up on all things going on over the week as well as any exciting events that will be coming up.

If you’re a return visitor to the blog Welcome back! If you’re new here, however, welcome as well and let me take a quick minute to introduce myself a bit and tell you what you can expect here on the blog.
My name is Heather, I’m the author of Heather Paige Blog! I live on a 40-acre horse ranch that my boyfriend and I have been renting for almost 2 years now along with our (now 3) dogs and our pet pig Oliver.
Here on the blog I like to share our experiences and gained appreciation for slow living, including DIY projects and crafts, home decor inspiration or anything else I think might be useful or fun to share.
I hope you enjoy what you find and leave inspired or at least find something I share on here helpful from time to time.
All right then, now that you’ve got some idea what I’m all about on here, let’s get back to week 1 of my new This Week on the Farm series!
Since I spontaneously decided to start this series this first post is going to be during an odd time of the week, a Tuesday.
In the future, I’m going to do my best to try and share closer to the end of the week for you guys.
A Thrift Store Score
Over the weekend I was able to stop at a thrift store for a bit where I struck gold.
I collect vintage depression glasses, among many other things. My collection is growing slowly but as it’s grown there’s been one glass that has stayed my favorite even with each edition to the collection.
I call it my Game of Thrones Chalice 🙂
I found it just shortly after moving to the farm at a Goodwill. It’s a dark green (what I would consider) wine glass with leaves detailing all around the main part of the glass cup. The cup itself is very large. The leaves turn to roots as they follow down the chalice stem and base.
When I look at the glass it reminds me of a glass that would be in a Game of Thrones scene.
Where a bunch or people are gathered around a grand banquet table with this giant wine glass in their hand as they laugh and eat and have a grand ol’ time.
I absolutely love the detail of the leaves on the glass.
Green is my favorite color so it’s no wonder it’s my favorite. My second favorite glasses are another set of green glasses that I found at an estate sale. These, however, I was lucky enough to get 13 of!
As much as I love my Game of Thrones chalice I don’t often use it.
Our floors are tile and I’ve accidentally broken 3 out of 4 of another set of glasses that were my favorite at the time. They were given to us by a family friend who recently passed away from cancer 🙁
It would break my heart to break this one or the last remaining glass from that set.
It’s not as if I can just go back to the store and buy more since they’re vintage so they stay tucked away in my cabinets.
This particular glass was made in the 1970’s.
After some research, I was able to find a few on Etsy but each one was around $20 apiece. I scored both these babies for 3 bucks each or so.
Anyway, this weekend I went back to this Goodwill not quite sure what I was looking for.
However, one thing I always make a note to check is the glassware section to see if there are any interesting pieces to add to my collection.
And what did I spot almost immediately, hiding way in the back of the shelf buried behind dozens of other mismatched glasses?
A matching green Game of Thrones Chalice!!!!
I couldn’t believe it! Like I said these glasses were made in the 1970’s, so what were the odds I’d find an identical one almost 2 years later at the very same Goodwill?!
In fact, I don’t often got to the Goodwill, I prefer the ARC or local thrift stores. But something told me to make a last minute stop there at 8pm on a Saturday night. Talk about meant to be!
I’m hoping that I can continue to find more of these particular glasses in the future.
My New Rain Boots
Last week I posted a list of some of my most recent affordable Spring finds from Target and Amazon. One of my favorite finds was the short green rain boots by Smith & Hawken at Target.
Well, I stopped by one of the 2 Targets in the area to check the clearance section and garden section for the boots. Both stores online said there was limited inventory and I’d have to order them online and have them shipped so I wasn’t expecting to find any.
Oddly, I couldn’t find the Smith & Hawken brand anywhere in the Home Decor or Garden section. Tom wanted to look at the lego section before we left haha and it’s a good thing we did because on the isle opposite from the logos was a secluded garden section specifically all Smith & Hawken.
What did I find?!
You guessed it, on an almost empty shelf was the last pair of short green Smith & Hawken rain boots in my size!
I also can’t leave Target without at least one or two items from their dollar section.
I found some adorable herb garden growing kits.
2 Lavender, 1 Chamomile, and 1 Rosemary. I had most of my seeds bought already but I didn’t have those 3 herbs and I just couldn’t resist the adorable little tin package it came in.
After all they were only $3, right?
I also got what the package calls a “Gardner’s Kit”. It includes a wooden “nail brush” with bristles and an adorable GREEN hand towel with a quote written on it.
Also only $3!
There was about 10 other things in that dollar section I could have tossed in my basket but I resisted.
It was a good weekend you guys!!
Carhartt Overalls
This has been a big shopping weekend, normally I don’t go shopping like this but I have to share the last thing I bought and am really excited about.
I finally pulled the trigger and decided to buy Carhartt overalls. I love Carhartt you guys. When we moved out to the farm I realized I didn’t have much (or any) work clothes.
Things made for rough farm and ranch work and the rugged weather that accompanies it. So I bought a couple Carhartt shirts some gloves and hats.
Carhartt is a big brand that anyone who works on a farm/ranch or any “get your hands dirty” kind of job will know.
I pretty much live in those two shirts they’re a nice durable material and fit comfortably.
Well, I’ve been wanting a pair of Carhartt overalls since I ordered my other Carhartt items but the overalls were on the pricier side.
For good reason of course, but anyone whos read anything on the blog before knows I’m a big bargain shopper. And for the last 2 years I couldn’t justify spending $70+ on a pair of overalls.
I finally decided it’s been long enough, I’ve wanted them for so long I know they’ll put them to good use and it’ll be worth it.
I haven’t gotten them yet but I’m soooooooo excited.
This particular pair that I got is the Women’s Carhartt Crawford’s Double Front Bib Overalls in brown. These ones are perfect for cool to warm temperatures so I’ll be able to wear them throughout the Spring maybe even Summer.
They also have some thicked insulated overalls that are meant for cold temperatures and Winter.
Depending on how I like these ones I plan to buy those next Winter, but I’ll have to wait and see.
Based on my experience with all my current Carhartt wear, I’m sure I’ll love them.
In care you’re curious, my blue Carhartt shirt is actually a men’s but I intentionally wanted a men’s so it would be larger on me.
If you’re looking for a tighter fit the women’s shirts are perfect and super cute. The gray long sleeve in the photos is a women’s.
The mittens are women’s and they are super warm. It gets pretty cold and windy out here on the farm and my fingers will be sweating when I’m wearing the mittens in single or negative digits out.
The hat is a men’s only because at the time I couldn’t find it in a women’s size or style I wanted, honestly it could be unisex there’s nothing about the fit that makes it a men’s hat.
Coming Up
Coincidentally, I realized I have some fabric I bought for an old project that I never ended up using and the pattern on the fabric looks weirdly similar to the floral pattern on the inside of the rain boots.
I’m brainstorming some ways I can use the fabric to create some fun Spring and Garden DIYs to share with you all in the near future so stay tuned!
I’ve waited as long as I can but it’s about time to start my garden planning and planting for this Spring.
I’ll be taking you guys along that journey, as I once again get my Spring garden ready. I’ll share some tips I’ve learned throughout the years as well as some helpful resources.
Including testing out some practices this year that are new to me. Fingers crossed that I don’t kill everything in the process.
A couple weeks ago I shared a roadside rescue of a French chair. I’ve been trying to decide on the fabric to reupholster it in and I think I’ve finally decided.
So, most likely next week I’ll be sharing some more upholstery posts with helpful tips and how-to’s.
In the meantime be sure to check out some of my other upholstery projects and related posts, and subscribe to my newsletter to get notified of new and upcoming upholstery and DIY projects!
Thanks for stopping by!
I hope you enjoyed today’s first week of “This Week on the Farm” series.
